Five firefighters have died fighting forest fires in Spain.

Four firefighters died near Tarragona, Catalonia, when the wind changed direction and revived a blaze thought under control. A fifth died in Teruel province when his vehicle was involved in an accident while en route to a fire.

The deaths represent the worst losses to the fire service since 2005, when 11 firefighters lost their lives fighting a pine forest blaze near Guadalajara.
