The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) is looking for four young professionals from the architecture and building sectors to take part in its scholarship scheme.

Successful applicants to the SPAB Scholarshp 2008 will need to show a “demonstrable enthusiasm for historic building conversation” and will be given first-hand experience on the conservation of historic buildings from a number of different industries and professionals from around the UK, including timber.

The closing date for entries is Janaury 1, 2008, with interviews taking place in London at the end of the month.

SPAB is also to host a series of weekend conservation courses, informing homeowners how to deal with timber decay and other issues related to older buildings.

The three weekend courses will include topics such as surfaces and finishes, roofs and damp, as well as looking at how to choose the right professionals to undertake repairs.

The next course, on October 13-14, is already sold out, with future events planned in London on February 2-3, 2008 and in Brecon, Wales on June 7-8, 2008.
