A company based in the Indian Ocean is seeking European partners to distribute its the ‘Premium Quality Shingle’.

Soveco, which is headquartered on the Ile de la Réunion, claims to be the first in the world to use a system of wood torrefaction for shingles, a process it has taken 10 years to perfect. Instead of the shingles being treated with chromated copper arsenate (CCA), Soveco heats the wood to cure it.

The process enables the tiles to stabilise naturally without distortion, and the company claims plantation grown softwood is given all the qualities of oak.

The treatment also gives shingles insecticidal, fungicidal and waterproofing properties while the colouration produced directly in the heart of the wood provides many decorative possibilities.

Guaranteed for 60 years against the elements, the shingles can receive additional treatment against termites or for fire resistance, in accordance with national standards.
