Forty-four jobs have been saved at Robert Duncan (Timber) Ltd after MH Southern & Co Ltd struck a deal to acquire the firm from administrators and keep on all staff.

MH Southern said Robert Duncan was a well-established brand selling hardwood and softwood, and was one of only a few businesses in the north of England to supply certain timber products.

The acquisition will trade under the name Robert Duncan Timber Products Ltd.

“I am delighted to announce a deal which will preserve 44 highly-skilled local jobs in the north-east,” said MH Southern managing director James Southern.

“We intend to continue to trade from all of the business’ existing sites and build upon the excellent reputations that both businesses have within the timber importing and sawmilling industry.”

Robert Duncan is based in Gateshead.
