Southern yellow pine is on course to record its highest offshore market share for at least 10 years, according to industry newsletter Random Lengths.

The species accounted for almost half of all US softwood exports to overseas destinations between January and August.

Southern pine offshore exports reached 117 million board feet, representing 48.3% of all softwood lumber shipped overseas.

The trend has been fuelled by a decline in exports for other species coupled with a resurgence in southern pine.
