The index measures the average price received per cubic metre of sawlogs from Forestry Commission sales.
But the Coniferous Standing Sales Price Index provided better news, with a 13.6% growth in the 12 months to March. The average price per cubic metre of standing timber was £7.25 in nominal terms and £5.80 in 1996 prices.
