Travis Perkins has opened its 750th branch in Newcastle with a little help from local footballing legend Sir Bobby Robson.
The former Newcastle United and England manager joined staff for the opening of the Benton outlet, the company’s sixth branch in Tyneside but the first actually in the city itself.
Other branches are located in Gateshead, South Shields, Blaydon, Blyth and Burnopfield.
Chief executive Frank McKay said: “The launch of our 750th branch is in line with our intended growth strategy of operating from more than 800 branches by the end of 2006.”
The company’s aggressive growth strategy of acquisitions and brownfield development, together with the introduction of customer service initiatives, has resulted in its branch network expanding almost five-fold since 1988.
