Structural insulated panel manufacturer McVeigh Insulations is involved in a project to build one of the UK’s most sustainable schools in Liverpool.
McVeigh Insulations, which operates a SIPs design, fabrication, supply and installation service, is using SIPs panels in the construction of Hope Academy, a joint Catholic and Church of England secondary school.
The £30m three-storey building uses around 6,000m² of large format SIPs, each measuring up to 7x3m, with window and door openings pre-formed. The building has a floor area of 13,758m² and Willmott Dixon is the main contractor.
All of its electricity and hot water needs will be met by renewable energy generated on site.
The second phase will include demolition of the existing Newton Community High School and construction of new sports pitches. The project is expected to be completed in December 2011.
