Timber connector manufacturer Simpson Strong-Tie (SS-T), which took a roadshow to I-joist distributors nationwide, has ended the project with a two-day seminar on how changes to Buildings Regulations may impact on the use of engineered floors.
The seminar, held at SS-T’s Tamworth production site, was attended by more than 10 I-joist distributors and manufacturers, who heard about proposed changes to Building Regulations Part E (resistance to the passage of sound) and Part L (conservation of fuel and power in dwellings).
Discussions included looking at how robust details in masonry construction are having a dramatic effect on UK build methods, particularly building joists into masonry party walls.
Jason Mills, timber engineering manager at Gloucester-based Joseph Griggs & Co Ltd, said: “In this industry it is vitally important that we keep in touch with the ever-changing market.”
SS-T is investing €1m in having all its structural connectors CE marked throughout Europe. It has also constructed a European test facility at Tamworth to help design new products and raise industry standards.
