Timber and engineered wood product connector manufacturer Simpson Strong-Tie (SS-T) says its ITB hanger is now being used in 10% of all new UK homes.

Tamworth-based SS-T, which only launched the backer-free product six months ago, believes the figure will rise to 30% by the end of 2005.

The company says the success is down to national housebuilders demanding faster, safer and more cost-effective structures. Wimpey, Taylor Woodrow, David Wilson Homes, Bellway and Westbury are among builders using ITB hangers.

Richard Miles, SS-T’s sales and marketing director, said; “This influx of demand for the backer-free hanger highlights not only the growing need for more innovative ITB structures but also shows we must keep on innovating and creating new solutions to meet ever-changing needs of builders and housing developers.”

The ITB hanger was designed to strengthen I-joist to I-joist floor connections without using backer blocks.
