A plan designed to manage 11.5 million acres of national forest land in the Sierra Nevada has been approved by the US Forest Service.
The scheme aims to improve wildlife habitats and reduce the danger of wildfires around mountain communities.
However, environmental groups have threatened to bring lawsuits against the plan, which they describe as an attempt to triple logging in 11 national forests.
