As part of its investment programme to improve the efficiency of terminal operations and increase material handling capacity, Shoreham Port has placed an order for a Sennebogen crane worth £1m.

The order comes hard on the heels of significant improvement to the port’s productivity following the arrival of a Sennebogen hydraulic mobile material handler in June last year.

Alan Motterham, general manager of Sussex Port Forwarding, said the new crane, which can handle bulk materials, timber, steel and general cargoes, is due to arrive in mid-March.

He added: “This injection of new equipment at Shoreham will help to secure the port’s competitiveness into the future. We will be better placed than ever to handle growth in traffic and to compete commercially against other ports in southern England.”

The port has seen massive investment in handling capacity in recent months. Arrivals during 2005 included the first Sennebogen crane, a fleet of fork lift trucks, a Volvo L150 front loader with a 3.75m3 capacity bucket and a Bobcat skid-steer loader.

Mr Motterham said the port was determined to maintain its position as a leading employer in the area and a premier port in southern England.

He added: “This new crane, our existing fleet and other equipment we will be ordering as part of our investment programme will ensure we achieve our objectives.”
