Although the company says the new storage space is not product specific, a spokesperson told TTJ that it was interested in hearing from any timber companies interested in using the port, and its expanded facilities.

Scheduled to begin in early December, the work will include the construction of a 6,000m2 shed designed for a wide range of cargoes. The whole project is expected to completed in six months.

“During 2005, the port saw an 8.5% increase in traffic on the previous 12 months,” said chief executive Rod Johnstone. “These high levels of traffic have continued this year and, as a result, there has been an increasing need for more cargo ‘lay down’ space and covered warehousing.”
