Family-run lumber firm McShan Lumber Co is the latest business to have achieved certification for its fibre sourcing from the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI).
Alabama-based McShan processes southern yellow pine into a range of products, and said the attainment of SFI fibre sourcing approval was key to it being able to meet market demands.
“SFI fibre sourcing certification plays a critical role in our environmental policy, and empowers our customers to make an educated environmental choice about the southern yellow pine products they buy,” said Grover Allgood, vice-president of procurement at McShan.
“Certification to the SFI standard means we will be able to meet the increasing market demand for environmentally friendly products which is good for our business and our forests.”
SFI fibre certification means two-thirds of a company’s supply comes from SFI-approved procurement operations.
