Setra is continuing to focus resources on construction of multi-storey timber frame buildings, with the erection of Sweden’s first timber multi-storey car park.

The car park is being built in the Ekorrren district of central Skellefteå together with a five-storey wooden structure containing 32 apartments using Setra’s Trälyftet building system. The sole contractor for the work is Setra’s Plusshus division, which delivers customised homes, structures and volumetric solutions.

Setra’s CEO Kent Torwald remains confident of the long-term potential of climate-smart industrial wooden buildings, despite the construction industry downturn.

“The proportion of new homes in multi-storey buildings with timber frames has risen from a few per cent at the start of the 21st century to about 15% today,” he said.

Mr Torwald said Setra’s Building Systems division had grown and its Trälyftet industrial-scale building system had left the development stage and become a commercial reality.

Per Fredrikson, currently managing director of Setra Byggprodukter, has been appointed head of Building Systems and will take up his position on March 1.
