Swedish company Setra has signed a SKr100m deal to become the sole supplier of pine boards for sub-floors for Kährs parquet flooring.

Setra’s president Anders Nilsson said the three-year agreement was evidence of changing buying patterns. “This is a new trend that the company is obtaining all its supplies from one supplier like this instead of buying small volumes,” he said.

The deal is also evidence of changing co-operation within the wood products industry, as Setra has joined forces with Södra Timber and Iggesund Timber.

Mr Nilsson believes the deal can pave the way for future development where sawmills get closer to their customers and become partners rather than suppliers – a fact echoed by Kährs president Folke Becker.

“Having one major supplier allows us to optimise this co-operation and conduct joint development projects, which is good for both companies,” he said.
