Setra’s reorganisation programme has entered a new phase with production volumes being reallocated across its sawmills.

Volumes are being re-prioritised from Seskarö, Lövholmen and Färila to the remaining units within Setra.

“Optimising production at our existing units will strengthen our long-term competitiveness,” said president and CEO Kent Torwald.

“We have received a clear assignment from Setra’s new board of directors to complete this restructuring process with full vigour and our focus now is on exploiting synergy gains.”

In Norrbotten and Västerbotten a production volume corresponding to approximately 100,000m³ of sawn product will be moved to the sawmills in Rolfs (Kalix) and Malå.

In Bergslagen a production volume corresponding to 160,000m³ will be divided between the three sawmills Kastet (Gävle), Nyby (Björklinge) and Heby.

Production increases at the remaining units will be carried out in stages until the end of August and will be fully completed by year-end.

“This aggressive focus on our remaining strategic units feels positive,” said Mr Torwald. “Overall we expect that these local production increases will create some 50 new jobs during autumn 2009.”

When sawing at Färila and Lövholmen sawmills ceases in the summer, Setra will have production at nine sawmills and six independent processing units. In addition, Setra has two factories for industrial manufacture of wooden buildings.
