Setra has opened a sales office in North Africa as it focuses on growing markets in the region and the Middle East.

The office was opened by Tunisia’s minister of commerce Ridha Touiti in the country’s capital, Tunis.

Setra said its sales to North Africa and the Middle East had increased “significantly” over the past few years and now accounted for 20% of its total production.

“With a young and growing population, we believe that the long-term growth in construction and wood consumption in the future will be significantly higher in the region than in western Europe,” said Kent Torwald, Setra president and CEO.

He said Setra believed the market for more processed products, including glulam, panels and mouldings, will also have strong growth potential.

Setra aims to open an office in the Middle East before the end of 2009.
