AssiDöman Forest and Timber Ltd is changing its name to Setra Sales UK Ltd following last year’s merger between AssiDöman and Mindab (Mellanskog Industri AB).

The new name for the Swedish based parent company is Setra Group AB, which is Sweden’s largest sawmiller comprising 14 mills and five processing units. It supersedes the Royal Star Wood Products name, which served as a working title for the newly-merged companies.

The UK operation will continue to be based at the AssiDöman offices at Warlingham and Beverley, with Paul Micklefield remaining as managing director. It is also handling the UK business formerly conducted by Mindab through London-based UCM Timber plc.

Setra has been divided into two business areas, sawn products and wood products.

The company says its new name has several meanings. “Se” stands for Sweden and “tra” is Swedish for wood. “Se” is also the verb “to see” which relates to the company’s focus on appearance products, such as timber for windows, flooring, mouldings and panelling.
