Doncaster-based Sentry Doors has invested £1m in its strategy to become one of the UK’s top three doorset producers.
The 20-year-old manufacturer has dedicated a 12,500ft² unit on its six-acre site to doorsets and installed a new suite of Sage manufacturing software. It has also appointed a new general manager, Norman Walker, to strengthen the management team.
Business development manager Steve Carter said that the growth in offsite construction methods in the UK was driving doorset demand.
“This trend is all about improving supply chain efficiency and cutting time on the construction site,” he said. “Doorsets are the perfect fit. One contract covers frames, architrave doors and hardware, simplifying the procurement process, and enabling just-in-time delivery. In addition, the complex operation of getting the doors to swing true has already been performed, so doorsets can be installed much quicker.”
Sentry, which employs 50 people, claims already to be the UK’s largest external door producer and is now planning to build a new factory for its expanding commodity doors division. The company uses a variety of timber for its various ranges, including meranti, a ‘multi-lam’ engineered product and redwood.
It recently won the Chartered Institute of Builders Regional Product Manufacturer of the Year title.
