Selco, the Builders Warehouse, says it is the first trade-only supplier to achieve Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) chain of custody certification on more than 500 timber and wood products.

The Birmingham-based company, which has 10 branches in the West Midlands, South Wales and London, took 12 months to establish its FSC chain of custody, with auditing completed by the Soil Association.

Bob Deadman, Selco’s company buyer, said: “From a commercial point of view, this status assists with the continued market access to an increasingly environmentally aware sector of the public, and can give our customers the all-important edge when completing tenders for such bodies as housing associations and local authorities.”

He described FSC timber as no more expensive than non-FSC timber, with certification costs not being passed onto tradesmen.
