Louisiana-Pacific (LP) and Abitibi-Consolidated Inc have opened their second I-joist plant as part of a joint venture.

Abitibi-LP Engineered Wood Inc’s facility in St Prime, Québec has an annual production capacity of 75 million linear feet and will make solid-sawn I-joists. The first plant was opened in 2003 at Larouche.

LP supplies OSB and markets the I-joists, while Abitibi provides the lumber.

Patch Bonkemeyer, LP’s engineered wood products general manager, said: “We’ve been experencing growth in the demand for solid sawn I-joists, so the addition of the St Prime facility is good news for our customers.”

Abitibi-LP is now the largest producer of solid-sawn I-joists in North America.
