Coillte Panel Products has commissioned artist and photographer Mike Dye to create a series of wall sculptures using its MDF and OSB products.
Mr Dye’s core idea for the pieces, which hang in Coillte’s Dartford office, was to reflect the manufacturing process. Viewing the panels as towering stacks, rather than flat expanses, provided the inspiration for the sculptures.
The four separate 1m2 square pieces feature panels stacked to a depth of 150mm to feature the short end face rather than the usual flat surface. Taylor Made Joinery Interiors in Ipswich developed a bespoke cutting tool for its CNC router to carve out the 3D relief.
Coillte Panel Products marketing and business development director Geoff Rhodes said Mr Dye had produced art works that “we could never have expected”.
“The brief for this amazing work emerged as we looked at what statement could we make to show MDF and OSB in a very different way. Mike has given us a beautiful and unique result,” he said.
