Forestry and biomass growers in Scotland are to have the chance to receive extra funding thanks to a woodland creation scheme announced by environment minister Michael Russell.

The £3m fund will be available for the 2007/08 plantation season and is to be distributed on a competitive basis, meaning potential beneficiaries will have to bid for the money.

Mr Russell announced the scheme, which is aimed at tackling climate change, during a visit to a Caithness Heat and Power Ltd woodfuel project at Pulteney Distillery in Wick.
