Ms Brankin, who unveiled an ambitious strategy to transform Scotland’s forest industry when she was appointed deputy environment minister in 2005, has moved into the Scottish cabinet as new communities minister.

During her time as forestry minister, Ms Brankin launched numerous projects, recently including a new forest strategy for Scotland (ttjonline October 11, 2006) and extra cash to help minimise the impact of timber transport on the country’s rural roads (ttjonline November 30, 2006).

The new deputy environment minister will be Sarah Boyack.
