Commencement of works follows the approval of full planning permission for the project by Fife Council.

Scott decided to relocate its existing new pallet manufacturing site from nearby Rosyth as it wanted a more efficient site, to allow for expansion and due to other neighbouring businesses at Rosyth expanding.

The new six-acre site is at the eastern end of the Port of Burntisland, near Kirkcaldy. Work to refurbish an existing 30,000ft2 warehouse on the six-acre site has started and will be followed by the relocation and installation of equipment during the next two months, while the quayside will be adapted to handle timber.

Alan Gibson, Scott’s managing director for the pallets and packaging business, told TTJ the new facility will add 15% additional capacity to its Scottish new pallet manufacturing operation, though the move was mainly focused on having a site with improved efficiencies.

“It allows us to bring our imported Baltic material straight in to the manufacturing facility,” said Mr Gibson “It strengthens our position in Scotland.”
