Pallet giant Scott Timber Group (STG) has added a further £10m to its annual turnover with the multi-million pound acquisition of the Bristol-based Hambrook Group.

The deal, for an undisclosed sum, covers five Hambrook pallet facilities at Avonmouth, Newport (South Wales), Newton Abbot, Wolverhampton and Featherstone.

Hambrook is among the UK’s largest manufacturers of new and reconditioned pallets, carrying stocks of well over 100,000 pallets.

STG managing director John Scott said: “Hambrook already has excellent systems and is profitable. Hambrook adds a number of services that we have already identified as key growth areas that carry enormous potential for the Scott Timber Group and its customers.”

Noting that Hambrook’s woodwaste activities “add a whole new dimension” to its own business, STG aims to roll out a waste timber removal and chipping service to all of its UK sites, capitalising on Hambrook’s “heavy investment in skips, skip vehicles and the necessary machinery to provide a woodwaste collection and recycling service”. Hambrook’s investment has included a wood-chipping machine capable of processing up to 20 tonnes of wood waste per hour.

The acquisition takes STG’s domestic turnover to more than £55m per year, while its recently-opened timber supply operation in Latvia adds a further £12m.

The Hambrook deal increases the number of STG sites in the UK to 14, with the workforce increasing by 150 to more than 600.

STG has also announced that its Barry and Widnes sites have achieved ISO 9001:2000 accreditation.
