The Scott brothers, owners of the UK’s biggest pallet manufacturer Scott Group, have announced operating profits of more than £5m for the Scott and Marlaw group of companies.

Turnover for the period ended December 31, 2008 will be officially released shortly but is expected to be “in excess of £117m”.

In total, John and Norman Scott own businesses covering 28 sites in the UK covering pallet, packaging, timber and engineering supplies industries.

Scott Group chief executive John Scott said the pallet division had performed strongly despite difficult trading conditions.

“Our overseas pallet and timber interests fit outside the group but are also performing robustly,” he added.

“European Trading Company (Latvia) has won considerable new business in Europe and the Middle East, with exciting new opportunities currently being assessed in Germany, Benelux, France and Poland.”

Riga-based European Trading Company is a joint venture which imports more than 8,000m³ of timber a month to the UK.”
