The Scott Group has strengthened its status as the UK’s largest pallet producer with two acquisitions in Manchester.

The company has bought reconditioned pallet specialist Williams Pallet Services and manufacturer Specrite Panels.

The former has been in business 30 years and was owned by Brian Williams and Tommy Ralph, while Specrite has been trading six years and was owned by the two partners and Billy McNamara. Combined, the companies turned over £9m.

Following the acquisition, the three previous owners and 70 staff of the two businesses will stay with their new owner, but the companies will be rebranded as part of the Scott Pallets division.

Scott Pallets and Scott Packaging managing director Alan Gibson said the takeovers formed part of Scott’s strategy to build up its presence in the north-west.

“Strategically this is another key development and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to serving local industry across the UK,” he said. “We now have a strong foothold in the Manchester area to service customers in the north-west.”

The Scott Group, which now ranges from packaging to tools and workwear, employs 1,000 people.

Before its latest acquisitions, Scott Pallets, which has a plant in Latvia as well as sites across the UK, produced 350,000 new pallets and 150,000 reconditioned products every week.
