By the end of the year, the Timber Trade Federation will have attended seven meetings with government ministers.

Speaking at the Scottish Timber Trade Association’s dinner in Edinburgh last week, president Philip Underwood said the TTF continued to work with UK government departments in all areas that had not been devolved to Edinburgh. He added that the STTA’s own plans, including sending the TTF’s manifesto to all Scottish MPs, would ‘complement the message’.

Another achievement of the year was the development of the federation’s code of conduct, which is expected to be implemented early next year. Mr Underwood said the code offered an opportunity for members to market against non-members and to specifiers.

Bruce Muirhead, president of the STTA, also welcomed the new code: ‘The code will convince our customers that they can buy timber, confident in the knowledge that the product is fit for purpose.’
