The work follows temporary strengthening measures, which were required when one of the laminated oak roof struts swung free from its connecting shoe earlier this year. The problem was due to a broken metal bolt.
Stainless steel dowels are being inserted through shoes and struts during the parliamentary summer recess, with work expected to be complete before MSPs take their seats again on September 6.
