The trees were the first giant redwoods to be introduced and planted outside of their native California. They were grown from seed sent back in 1853 to a local arboriculture enthusiast by his sons panning for gold.
A Giant Redwood Project was launched on Friday at Inchture where an avenue of the trees survives.
Syd House, of the PKCT, said: “This project is another opportunity to highlight the impact that Scottish plant hunters and earlier generations of tree planters have made to the quality of our countryside.”
