The opportunities for timber in Scottish affordable housing will be discussed at a seminar at the University of Stirling on June 16.

The aim is to report the key findings from a recent research study on “understanding the opportunities and perceived barriers to the construction of new timber framed housing in regeneration projects” undertaken by the university’s housing policy and practice unit.

Housing associations, architects, engineers, timber frame manufacturers, building companies, Communities Scotland and manufacturers of sustainable Scottish timber and timber products will be present at the event which is backed by Forestry Commission Scotland, the UK Timber Frame Association and the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations.

The study findings will be presented at the morning session and during the afternoon a number of presentations will focus on “medium rise timber frame buildings for affordable housing – can we rise to the challenge?”
