The news confirms a hint by Xylexpo several weeks ago that SCM was set to return with some of its brands to the Milan show.

The move effectively ends the long-running dispute between the three major woodworking machinery manufacturers – Biesse, Cefla and SCM – and the Xylexpo organisers.

"We will be at Xylexpo with some of our companies such as Superfici, CMS Group and Balestrini," said Max Salmi, SCM Group communications manager.

Mr Salmi said SCM would be taking about 600m2 of exhibition space at the May 13-17 event, while also launching The Home Event – its own major in-house on April 10-15 featuring more than 60 machines and production cells spread over 3,000m2 at its Rimini showrooms.

Mr Salmi confirmed to TTJ that its new event was instead of its exhibiting at the Technodomus fair in Rimini, which had been planned for April 9-12, but has now been cancelled by Rimini Fiera because of the loss of primary exhibitors Biesse, Cefla and SCM and poor sales.

"We do believe the best investment for us is The Home Event but we also truly believe in Xylexpo and we want to have a presence there, along with our competitors," Mr Salmi told TTJ.

"We definitely see the economy is picking up and it’s time to invest, but we believe the best investment is targeting the end-user [through The Home Event] by opening our doors and directly showing our customers a large amount of technology."
