Hampshire County Council has won a hat trick of Civic Trust Awards for three primary school construction projects which made use of cedar shingles.

John Brash, of Gainsborough, supplied shingles to tile the roofs of Whiteley, Great Binfields and Knightwood schools.

Council senior architect Neville Churcher, said: “Cedar is one of the most naturally durable materials, and shingles offer an economical, ecologically sound, low weight and very beautiful alternative to man-made roofing products.”

Civic Trust Awards are given for outstanding examples of architecture and environmental design and take into account the benefit each building brings to its local area, as well as the quality of design.
