Forty more trainees have joined the SCA Timber Supply list of graduates to receive their Institutue of Wood Science (IWSc) Timber Studies Award.

They took part in training sessions held between autumn 2003 and spring 2004.

Two further groups are currently on courses being hosted at AJ Beer & Co Ltd in Liverpool and Harlow Bros in Loughborough and they could take the total of successful graduates to more than 50 by the summer.

Alan Beer, director of AJ Beer & Co Ltd, said: “We put a high priority on training as it gives both staff and customers greater confidence. It also helps us to distinguish ourselves from our competitors.”

Mr Beer said his company may consider putting an entry forward for the TTJ Trainee of the Year award.

SCA Timber Supply is already booking its intensive five-day courses in the autumn with three planned to start in September and more planned for January 2005 and beyond.

The company’ partnerships with the British Woodworking Federation and Builders’ Merchants Federation on training continue, as does its involvement with the Timber Trade Federation‘s Education and Training Committee.
