Work has started on a £4.5m sawlog X-ray scanning investment at SCA’s Bollsta’s sawmill.

Groundwork for the project has started and will be completed in July, with the new sawlog table and measurement equipment being installed during the summer.

“Using X-ray scanning, we can make optimal use of the unique qualities of our northern pine raw material,” said Katarina Levin, Bollsta mill manager.

“In the sorting process we can already steer the right log towards the right product, maintaining high and uniform product quality. The new equipment will enable us to further reduce waste and sort out products that do not meet customer specifications.”

Bollsta has a 450,000m³ solid pine capacity.
