SCA is seeking to shed 22 jobs from its Rundvik sawmilling operation in a bid to improve operating costs.

The company has begun negotiations with local trade unions on the reductions. Rundvik’s planing capacity is in a better competitive position and no cut-backs are planned in that department.

As part of the redundancies, 17 internal transport employees will be offered jobs with a local contractor to whom the transport is to be outsourced.

Rundvik sawmill manager Pär Micael Samuelsson said: ‘If we are to develop the business we must be competitive. Since wages and other personnel costs are second only to the raw material costs for the sawmill, cost reductions unfortunately lead to redundancies.’
