A new grading mill and increased kilning facilities are to be installed at SCA‘s Munksund sawmill at a cost of more than £7m.

The investment could also create up to 20 new jobs at the mill in northern Sweden.

Sawmill manager Ulf Larsson said: ‘Sorting dried timber products has been a bottleneck in production. This investment will enable the sawmill to streamline both the kilning and grading stages, bringing our potential capacity up to around 400,000m³.’

Munksund’s most important markets are Scandinavia and Britain. Rob Simpson, managing director of SCA Timber UK, said: ‘Grading and kilning are two key factors of value to our window and door manufacturing and furniture industry customers. They are also the main users of our humidity-controlled facilities here in the UK, in which we store the customised moisture content products supplied by Munksund.’
