SCA Timber has invested SKr4m in sorting and storage equipment at its Vilhelmina sawmill to boost productivity.

The investment includes technology for three-dimensional measuring of sawlogs, and additional compartments for sorted logs. Vilhelmina has an annual production capacity of 110,000m³ of spruce solid wood products, including 30,000m³ of planed timber.

The new technology will lead to the loss of eight jobs from the sawmill’s workforce of 60 as a result of improved production flow.

“This is an important investment for us,” said sawmill manager Lars Andersson. “We will become more efficient and competitive.”

Mr Andersson added that the potential to increase production at the sawmill would be ignored in the meantime as the market remained weak.
