Schools across the country have joined SCA Timber Supply to plant trees in celebration of UN International Year of Forests.

Twenty-one schools from Bedale in North Yorkshire and Brynoch in South Wales, and Thornton Cleveys in Lancashire to Tunbridge Wells, Kent were each given 11 spruce tree seedlings to plant – brought over from SCA’s Bogrundet Tree Nursery in Sweden.

Planting trees during the last week of September also enabled schools to be part of the annual FSC Friday campaign.

Young people aged 5-16 were given a presentation about sustainable wood and its passage from tree nursery to builders merchant, and into their homes and schools.

TTJ news editor Stephen Powney joined SCA’s Camilla Hair to help plant trees at St John’s CE Primary School in Tunbridge Wells.
