Södra says its two-year project to test the use of biodiesel in its lorries is showing good results.

The six vehicles involved in the test have been functioning normally since converting to rape methyl ether (RME) biodiesel.

The lorries, serving Södra’s sawmills and pulp mills, have recorded a slightly higher fuel consumption, “but less than the 5% you would normally expect with RME”, said Åsa Forss, Södra project manager.

Lorry manufacturer Scania is monitoring the project and has guaranteed that the vehicles will be 100% reliable.

The project, which started in January, is intended as a step towards reducing Södra’s climate impact.
