Södra is buying two businesses from troubled sawmiller Rörvik Timber for an undisclosed sum.

It will buy Rörvik’s 150,000m³ capacity pressure treatment impregnation facility at Åstorp, as well as glue-laminated board producer BJU in Rottne.

“The acquisition [of the treatment business] will enable us to develop our sawmill in Traryd and increase production for the Danish market,” said Södra Timber president Peter Nilsson.

“We will also pressure-treat timber from other Södra sawmills at the Åstorp plant.”

The acquisition will be completed on July 1 and will then trade under the name Södra Timber Åstorp.

Rörvik said it would remain able to produce pressure-treated timber via Rörvik Timber Sales AB, Niels Ulrich Pederson A/S and Nordic Wood Treating AB.

Södra subsidiary Gapro acquired BJU, which recorded a turnover of SKR50m last year, on June 1. BJU’s glue-laminated boards are produced for the furniture and building trades.

“BJU in Rottne is currently a supplier to Gapro and we see major benefits and synergies in an ongoing development of the existing Gapro range as well as improving distribution efficiency,” said Gapro president Håkan Svensson.

Earlier this week it was announced that Gapro had acquired turned posts and pine components manufacturer Nordingrå Trä.
