HRI Architects has drawn up plans for the Newtonmore-based firm and the project is being assessed by the Cairngorms National Park Authority. Russwood managing director John Russell told TTJ that more than 30 staff members were currently divided between an old office and a couple of Portacabins on site.

“The advantage of the existing site is we are right beside the railway line and every second train stops at Newtonmore,” said Mr Russell. “It’s an opportunity to fly the flag for Russwood to the commuters and intrigue them, so they may look us up on the internet.”

Russwood, which also supplies timber decking and flooring products, plans to use its name and logo on the side of the new building facing the railway line, using the timber cladding as a product showcase.

The new building, to be sited on a former railway siding, will feature a glulam structural frame with timber frame infill panels and will be clad in timber.

HRI Architects has designed sseveral notable timber buildings, including the Forestry Commission Scotland district offices at Smithton and Huntly.
