Model timber frame homes built in Russia are generating orders for their Canadian manufacturers which could rise to 10,000 over the next few years.

Canadian construction companies and their local partners are hoping to encourage Russian families out of city apartments and into new suburban town house developments. They say costs can be kept low because Russia, like Canada, is rich in timber and local labour and materials are used.

Meanwhile, a local social initiatives support fund is being funded by a US investment group to finance the introduction of US ‘quick-house’ technology.

It is hoped to build the first specialised factory this year, and the programme could lead to the creation of 40 factories producing homes suitable for Russia.
