The council is a consultative body and has the intended purpose of drafting recommendations, promoting competitiveness of Russian wood products and working on the structure of the country’s export market.

It will also work on modernising the country’s timber industry and establishing better cooperation between the state and private businesses.

Prime minister Viktor Zubkov will head up the council, with the rest of the council’s body to be chosen by the government.
