The Russian government is making plans for forestry development up to 2010.
At the moment only 7-10% of the economical potential of forestry in Russia is used despite the country having a quarter of the world’s forests.
Problems include technological and economic disconnection of forestry, procurement and processing enterprises, exhaustion of main production funds and lack of investment. The government says it is now developing strategies to tackle these areas.
