As part of its new strategy for nationwide distribution, Cheshire-based Rowlinson Timber has received its first timber delivery at Shoreham Port.

Ms Gotaland discharged 5,000m3 of Swedish carcassing at the East Sussex port over the Christmas period and Rowlinson’s sea freight manager David Wilson believes it will be the first of many.

He said Shoreham will be ideal to service customers in London and the south-east.

The company has also positioned new volumes in south Wales via Associated British Port’s Port of Newport which are destined for Wales and the west Midlands.

Mr Wilson said: “We are implementing a new strategy for distribution as one of our goals for this year.

“The south-east of England is one of the largest markets in the UK and, because of its position, Shoreham Port gives us an advantage. We had served the area from our operation in the Humber Estuary.

“We already have some customers in the south-east and London and we want to develop our customer base.”

Mr Wilson said Rowlinson Timber has superb procurement arrangements in all the countries from which it buys timber, giving the company a significant advantage over its competitors.

“Our import targets have increased year on year over the past 10 years and we expect to further develop volumes”, he said.

The company is also investing in developing its sales force to service its expanding market area.
