A shipment of 176 containers of rosewood has been impounded in Madagascar, according to island newspaper Les Nouvelles.
The wood was reportedly to have been illegally felled in two national parks following the military coup earlier this year.
The timber, bound for China, is reportedly worth US$655,000 and will only be released by authorities if fines and taxes are paid by exporters.
Illegal loggers moved into the Marojejy and Masoala national parks after forest rangers left their posts during the political upheaval.
