Ron Taylor, chief executive of Smee Timber, is retiring at the end of September, after a distinguished career that has spanned five decades in the timber industry.

Mr Taylor joined Smee Timber Ltd in 1990, and has been an integral part of the company’s success and continued prosperity.

He started his career in the timber industry in 1960 at GEO H Smith (T&M) Ltd where, during his seven years with the company, he became a beech specialist. He then moved to Kahn Bros Timber Ltd, which supplied the hardwood to companies such as Jaguar and Bentley.

In 1973 he joined hardwood importer and merchant Vitak Timber Imports Ltd, before moving on in 1986 to K&B Forest Products. In 1990, Mr Taylor joined Smee Timber Ltd, where he has remained for the past 18 years.

He now plans to return to his roots in London to spend more time with his family – and following the exploits of his beloved Arsenal Football Club.
